It all started 25 years ago in Columbia, South Carolina when a group of four University of SC freshman guys joined together to start a band known as Hootie and the Blowfish. Now, the band will have a monument erected in their honor, where they got their start, in South Carolina’s capitol in the Five Point neighborhood. The official unveiling of the steel and black granite structure is slated for October 21st.
“It makes me feel great,” said [lastfm]Darius Rucker[/lastfm], lead singer for the band and most recently a solo star in the world of Country music. “We started out there and played a lot of shows there. Those were a lot of fun nights. We were there for almost 12 years. For them to put up a monument and to be acknowledging the success that we’ve had and all the things we’ve done for the community in South Carolina is awesome”.
