How WE Remember Davy Jones
Not nearly with the hoopla that was generated when Whitney Houston died, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Davy Jones[/lastfm] of “[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Monkees[/lastfm]” passed away from a heart attack yesterday. We’re too young to remember The Monkees when their TV show was first on the air. Honestly, the first time I remember seeing an entire episode was when MTV ran them (the episodes) in the eighties.
HOWEVER, this does not mean we were unaware of Davy Jones. Far from it. Debbie and my sister have on big thing in common: they are both fine connoisseurs of “The Brady Bunch.” And being the little brother, I was forced to watch all the episodes as there was only one TV in the house.
Well, as any “Brady” expert will tell you, that show led the league in celebrity cameos. NONE of which was more memorable than when Davy Jones guested on an episode in 1971. In fact, when we heard of his death yesterday, the first thing we both did was begin mimicking his performance of “Girl” from that show.
If you’ve NEVER seen it, here it is. Oh, and one more thing about Davy Jones…we believe he is THE ONLY British singer who SOUNDS BRITISH when he sings! <g>
