Did you know every seven minutes a child is bullied?   Or that one in every seven students is either bullied or is a bully?

Those statistics may stop you in your tracks but did you know that over 160,000 kids stay home from school for fear of bullying?  Though it’s not a new thing in schools, bullying has been the main cause of suicides and self-harm among teens and pre-teens the past few years.  The Internet has only sparked an increase in taunting and bullying with the ability to be anonymous behind a screen.

Whether you bully in person or behind a computer, you are always affecting someone emotionally, mentally and sometimes even physically.  This Friday, May 4, is a big day to promote awareness.

Defeat The Label presents Stand 4 Change, a day when we love one another and not taunt, punish, bully or upset our peers.  This is where you all come in.  At 12 Noon ET, stop everything you’re doing in school, at work, at home and stand up.  Then turn to the people around you and compliment them, hug them and show them that you won’t stand for bullying.

Though Stand 4 Change was passed only in Michigan, the National Educational Association has adopted the movement and made it worldwide to over 170 countries and 30 million teachers!

Students, take a stand and pledge your support to let everyone know that you won’t stand for bullying in your school. Sign up here and download flyers for your school!

Teachers, sign up your school to take a Stand 4 Change.

Everyone here at The New 103.7 will be taking a stand as well, standing all day long as we work on Friday.  Tanner and his morning crew will talk about bullying all morning long and won’t sit down once in support of the movement!
