Toby Keith Explains His Inspiration Behind “I Like Girls That Drink Beer”
Today’s a big day for Toby Keith! He released his 16th studio album Hope On The Rocks and he’s just as humble as he was years ago. While chatting with Tanner in the Morning today, he gave the inside scoop on his latest hit “I Like Girls That Drink Beer”.
“There was a girl at my country club that we play golf at and she’s married to a childhood friend of mine,” Toby began, explaining the inspirations behind the hit. “And when the girls are playing golf they all order umbrella drinks.” He laughs at the thought, explaining that they only enjoy the club specials. Not this girl. “She always goes ‘gimme two or three Modelo’s’. And then she’ll put two or three in her cart and take off and then when the cart girl comes around she’ll go ‘put two or three in my holder there’.”
Sounds like a girl after any guy’s heart right? “I always make fun of her,” he continues, “and she goes ‘why do you make fun of me for drinking beer’ and I said ‘no I like girls that drink beer’ and thought ‘I’m gonna write that’.”
It was a match made in music Heaven as the single is climbing rapidly up the country charts, already breaking top 20. The great thing about dropping a new album is the promotional appearances that come with it and hopefully a brand new summer tour that his fans are accustomed to. Of course, Charlotte will have to be a spot on Toby’s map.
“My favorite part about playing Charlotte is that I always have a guy show up and bring me a Carolina fruit basket,” he recalls before explaining it’s not actually fruit. “[It's] about seven different fruit flavors of Moonshine,” he continues before letting out a loud “oh yeah” at the thought.
Hope On The Rocks is available now at all major music outlets.
