After winning the third season of The Voice, things have become quite a whirlwind for Cassadee Pope. After her resounding win, she signed a record deal immediately with Republic Nashville and soon was writing music and hitting the road to promote her brand new single “Wasting All These Tears.”
While hitting the southeast, Cassadee stopped by The New 103.7 and performed an acoustic set at Whisky River for her local fans. But before she took the stage, she chatted with Big Sexy about how life has changed since her big reality show win.
Besides the obvious, she’s living life with cameras around her at all times. “I am doing a docu-series… it’s less dramatic than a reality show and it’s gonna be on CMT around September.” The show will follow Cassadee on her journey from The Voice through the following months of recording, radio tours and of course her debut as opening act of the Rascal Flatts tour. “I want to show the fans the nitty gritty of [making music].”
Part of her journey includes another hurdle: winning over the country world after jumping in from the punk pop world. “People are a little hesitant but for the most part I think, on the show, I proved to a lot of people that as long as you’re real, you’re genuine and you’re singing songs you connect with, then no matter what genre people will embrace you.” Thankfully country is one of the most embracing genres of music there is which allowed Cassadee to dive headfirst into the Nashville world. Part of her transition to country superstar? Opening for Rascal Flatts this summer.
“You can expect new songs, of course. I might throw in a cover or two in there,” she reveals about her upcoming opening slot. “I’m just excited to play my new single ‘Wasting All These Tears’ because it’ll release June 4 which is really soon after the tour stars and I’m excited to see the progression of people learning the song.” Though it seems she doesn’t have to wait until tour for that. Fans have already found her acoustic performances from her radio tour and memorized all the words. If anything else, her fans are supportive.
But there’s more to Cassadee’s life than her obvious immersion into music, she’s also seriously dating the drummer of punk pop band All Time Low, Rian Dawson. While the two have been together for years, there hasn’t been much talk of a wedding… until now. Okay, okay, they’re not engaged but we were curious about which celebrities she’d want to be part of her wedding party. Some celebrities she listed include Jim Carrey, Jennifer Aniston, Chelsea Handler and of course The Voice coach Blake Shelton. “My boyfriend would be very excited for Dave Grohl [of the Foo Fighters] to be there and maybe Blink 182 can be the house band,” she joked.
Cassadee will be continuing her radio tour through the next couple weeks before embarking on the Rascal Flatts LIve & Loud Tour beginning May 31 in Wantagh, NY.
